Petersburg Energy Center Officially in Service

As conversations around Indiana’s energy capacity continue to evolve, the Petersburg Energy Center, a large solar and storage facility in Pike County, officially opened for service earlier this month. Located at the site of AES Indiana’s long-serving Petersburg Generating Station, the Petersburg Energy Center utilizes 515,388 solar modules to support 250 megawatts (MW) of solar generation with 180 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage. Leveraging a retired coal unit, this energy center connects to the Petersburg Station and generates enough electricity to power over 100,000 Indiana homes. 

These upgrades are a part of AES Indiana’s $1.1 billion investments into Pike County that seek to transition their energy generation from coal to natural gas while building up their renewable and storage capabilities.
